Statement on Community Representation at Immigration and Admissibility Hearings
The Rainbow Community of Canada is committed to supporting immigrants and vulnerable individuals navigating Canada’s immigration and admissibility processes.
In accordance with Canadian immigration and tribunal regulations, members and designated representatives of the Rainbow Community of Canada may, in a limited capacity, act as Counsel or Representatives at Immigration and Admissibility Hearings on an unpaid, volunteer basis, provided that no fees or compensation are charged for representation.
In this voluntary capacity, representatives provide community-based advocacy, guidance, and support to individuals navigating these processes. Individuals are encouraged to confirm representation requirements and eligibility with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) or the relevant tribunal to ensure compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.

The Rainbow Community of Canada is a federally incorporated national organization dedicated to supporting and recognizing 2SLGBTQIA+ people, supportive businesses, and organizations as registered Safe Spaces across Canada. Our work focuses on fostering safer, more inclusive communities by celebrating diversity, promoting equality, and strengthening allyship from coast to coast.
As part of our mission, we proudly certify and recognize schools, universities, churches, businesses, and organizations that demonstrate meaningful allyship and uphold the values of respect, dignity, inclusion, and human rights. Our Safe Space Certification Program helps identify and celebrate institutions that are genuinely committed to creating welcoming environments for members of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community.
The Rainbow Community of Canada also provides professional 2SLGBTQIA+ Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, Human Rights, and Sensitivity Training Workshops designed to help businesses, employers, service providers, and organizations better understand their responsibilities under Canadian human rights legislation. These educational programs promote respectful workplaces and customer service environments while helping organizations build cultures of inclusion and belonging.
Special emphasis is placed on industries that serve the public, including rideshare companies, Uber, Lyft, taxi operators, transportation providers, hospitality businesses, and customer-facing services, where respectful treatment and equal access are essential. Through education, awareness, and best practices, our workshops help organizations address and prevent discrimination, strengthen compliance with human rights obligations, and ensure that 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals are treated with dignity and respect. Proper sensitivity and human rights training contributes to a more inclusive, welcoming, and equitable Canada for everyone.
Beyond organizational recognition and education, the Rainbow Community of Canada issues Commendations and Proclamations to honour outstanding individuals who make a positive difference in their local communities. These honours are awarded through a nomination process, allowing community members to recognize leaders, advocates, allies, and everyday champions who inspire meaningful change and foster greater inclusion.
In addition, the organization provides 2SLGBTQIA+ advocacy, newcomer and integration support, refugee assistance, community-building initiatives, educational programming, and collaborative opportunities, helping individuals feel welcomed, protected, respected, and empowered.
The phrase “Rainbow Community” offers a simple and welcoming way to refer to the broader 2SLGBTQIA+ community. It is easy to say, inclusive in spirit, and reflects the diversity, resilience, and unity of people across identities and experiences.
